Project Overview

Enhanced User Interface for Traffic Engineers eSparkbiz collaborated closely with the client’s traffic engineers to redesign the UI, ensuring it was intuitive and easy to navigate. The new interface provided traffic engineers with a seamless experience for real-time traffic light monitoring and control, addressing earlier design challenges.

Real-Time Traffic Data Visualization The system featured dynamic charts, graphs, and gauges to display real-time traffic data, including signal status, flow, and duration. This visualization empowered engineers to make immediate decisions regarding traffic light regulation, especially in cases of congestion or emergencies.

Historical Data Analysis for Informed Decisions With integrated historical data analysis widgets, traffic engineers could review past traffic patterns and make data-driven decisions. This feature allowed them to adjust traffic lights based on established trends, optimizing the flow of traffic and mitigating potential issues.

Local Time Zone Support The front-end was equipped with time localization capabilities, ensuring that traffic engineers could view traffic data in their local time zone, regardless of the server’s time zone. This feature streamlined operations for users in different regions.

The Problem

The client faced several issues related to the development and deployment of their remote traffic monitoring system, primarily around the front-end interface and data visualization capabilities. These problems impacted both user experience and the system's ability to deliver actionable insights in real-time.

Inadequate UI Mockups

The first mock-ups for the UI were defective and infeasible. They could not satisfy the needs of traffic engineers, and thus the interface could not be used and was unresponsive to real-time data..

Complex Data Visualization Needs

Traffic engineers needed both historical and real-time traffic data, but the system available at that time did not have good means of showing that data clearly and comprehensively. The needed visualizations were either missing or underdeveloped.

Performance Issues

With time, the complexity of data and demands for real-time processing made the front-end lag behind in performance. This led to slow loading of data, resulting in systems failing to display traffic information on time.

Time Localization Confusion

Default time settings were still server time-based and thus confusing to most users outside those time zones. It simply meant that the available traffic data was not accurate for a user based out of a specific region and, therefore, complicated the decision-making process.

Scalability is something missing in the frontend design previously done. Redesigning UI Mockups

eSparkbiz worked with traffic engineers to enable full redesign of UI. Redesigning UI focused on ease of use, intuitive controls for monitors controlling traffic lights and, as well, gave due importance to clear information with clarity and ease of navigation.

Enhanced Data Visualization

The team developed several widgets that visualize data, which covered a real-time and historical view of traffic data. Real-time widgets offered the status of traffic lights, signal duration, and traffic flow through dynamic charts and gauges. Synchronized widgets enabled the engineers to present their historical traffic patterns, on which appropriate decisions could be taken.

Optimizing Performance

It solved performance problems by doing an upgrade of the best front-end tech stack, upgrading best practices in real-time data processing.
