Seeking a Unified SCM SolutionA global leader in manufacturing and supply chain management (SCM) services sought a scalable and efficient SaaS solution to unify all their SCM processes. Their objective was to integrate their existing quality management SaaS application while ensuring seamless expansion with future SCM products. This required a modern, cloud-native approach to enhance collaboration, visibility, and control across their global operations.

Leveraging an Established Partnership with eSparkbizBuilding on a successful prior collaboration in business intelligence (BI) development, the client engaged eSparkbiz for this project. eSparkbiz’s deep understanding of the client’s infrastructure and data sources allowed them to accelerate the portal design phase. Their previous experience working with the client’s teams also facilitated smoother communication, helping to identify key pain points and areas for process optimization early in development.

In today's fast-paced business environment, real-time communication and efficient information retrieval are essential. Users required advanced search functionality to quickly locate and access critical information, such as purchase orders, inventory levels, and shipment details.

The Solution

To address these challenges, eSparkbiz designed and implemented a scalable, cloud-native SaaS solution leveraging modern technologies and best practices. The solution was built on a microservices-based architecture deployed on Microsoft Azure, ensuring flexibility, scalability, and high availability.

The platform was designed with robust API management using Azure API Gateway, facilitating smooth integration between the existing quality management SaaS application, future SaaS modules, and legacy systems. Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) was utilized for efficient communication between services, ensuring seamless data exchange across different applications.

Efficient and Reliable Data Handling

To ensure fast and reliable access to critical SCM data, eSparkbiz implemented a distributed data architecture using Azure SQL Database and Cosmos DB for optimized performance and real-time data availability. Event-driven architecture with Azure Event Hubs and Apache Kafka enabled asynchronous processing of large data volumes, ensuring real-time updates across all microservices. Additionally, data caching using Redis improved response times for frequently accessed information.

Flexible and Granular User Management

A role-based access control (RBAC) system was integrated using Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), allowing administrators to define custom user roles and permissions. The system supported multi-tenant access, enabling users to operate across different companies with granular access controls based on their responsibilities. Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) were implemented to enhance security while ensuring seamless user experience across multiple platforms.

Real-time Communication and Advanced Search Capabilities

To meet the need for real-time communication, eSparkbiz integrated WebSockets and SignalR for instant notifications and updates on SCM activities. An advanced search engine powered by Elasticsearch enabled users to quickly retrieve purchase orders, inventory levels, and shipment details across multiple databases. This significantly reduced search times and improved operational efficiency.
