The situation before the platform
Why the NIL era needed one ecosystem instead of a payments tool, a compliance spreadsheet and an auction site.
| The business |
A sports technology innovator serving the collegiate and professional sports landscape, connecting universities, athletes, sponsors, collectives, donors, teams and fans in one ecosystem. |
| The starting point |
Universities, collectives and sports organizations ran payments, compliance, auctions, fan engagement, marketplaces and sponsorships across multiple disconnected platforms, reconciling data by hand between them. |
| The trigger |
As NIL opportunities expanded, institutions had to navigate evolving NCAA, Title IX and IRS guidelines while tracking donor contributions and distributing funds — work that was time-consuming and error-prone in the tools available. |
| What they wanted |
One platform bringing NIL fund management, player boosting, a verified marketplace and fan engagement and loyalty together, with automated NIL workflows, built-in compliance controls and audit-ready reporting. |
| Constraints |
Every transaction had to satisfy strict regulatory frameworks without introducing delay · collectibles needed verifiable authenticity to counter a counterfeit-heavy memorabilia market · the experience had to stay simple and mobile-friendly for fans while the blockchain layer stayed invisible behind it. |
What it runs at today

Four gaps that shaped the build from day one
Not vague pain points — the specific tensions in building one compliant sports ecosystem for institutions, athletes and fans at once, each paired with what we did about it.
With the rise of NIL, universities and athletic programs had to navigate a web of evolving NCAA, Title IX and IRS guidelines. Managing payments, tracking donor contributions and evidencing compliance became time-consuming and error-prone. Institutions needed systems that could automate fund distribution, keep accurate compliance records and provide clear audit trails without increasing administrative workload.
Compliance built into the core rather than added afterwards: NCAA, Title IX and other regulatory requirements are integrated into the system architecture, so NIL fund distribution, audit reporting, verification checks and payment tracking run automatically.
Traditional sports engagement models limited fans to passive viewership, while modern fans expect to support athletes directly, engage with teams and reach exclusive opportunities. The real challenge was building a system where fan actions translate into tangible value for both the athletes they support and the experiences they receive in return.
Real-time player boosting through simple QR-based interactions, with leaderboards, configurable revenue splits and tiered loyalty rewards, so a fan contribution lands instantly and shows up in athlete earnings.
The memorabilia market has long struggled with authenticity. Signed merchandise, game-used items and limited-edition collectibles lacked reliable verification, which fed widespread counterfeiting. That damaged fan confidence and stopped athletes and organizations capitalizing on long-term revenue, especially in secondary markets.
A verified marketplace where every item is authenticated through blockchain-backed metadata and tokenization, with live auctions, resale tracking and smart contract royalties so athletes keep benefiting from secondary sales.
Many universities, collectives and sports organizations relied on multiple disconnected platforms to manage payments, compliance, auctions, fan engagement, marketplaces and sponsorships. The result was inefficiency, inconsistent data handling and operational complexity — teams switching between systems, reconciling data manually and absorbing integration problems.
A unified infrastructure where NIL management, compliance workflows, blockchain verification, fan engagement tools and marketplace operations share one data flow instead of being bridged by manual reconciliation.
How it fits together
Simplified — the shape rather than every service.
A responsive web and mobile-friendly experience for athletes, institutions and fans, with QR-based activations designed to work in the stand as well as at a desk.
One Nest.js API surface fronts every client, with digital identity verification and background compliance validation applied before a payout or boost is allowed through.
Each function is its own concern, so fund distribution, boosting, marketplace operations, loyalty and reporting can be tuned or extended without destabilising the others.
PostgreSQL holds athlete, fund, marketplace and engagement data alongside an immutable on-chain record, deployed on AWS with GitHub supporting development and version control.
Six systems doing the actual work
Not a features list — the specific things we built behind every number above.
Smart contract-driven distributions move money from donors to athletes accurately, on time and in line with NCAA and Title IX requirements, with real-time dashboards and transparent transaction tracking.
Fans support athletes in the moment through QR-based interactions, with leaderboards, configurable revenue splits and gamified engagement tools around the contribution.
Signed merchandise, game-used gear and digital collectibles are authenticated through verifiable metadata, with tokenized assets, live auctions, resale tracking and smart contract royalties.
Tiered loyalty programmes, unlockable rewards and exclusive experiences reached through stadium QR activations, with engagement dashboards showing how fans actually behave.
A secure integrated wallet acts as the athlete's financial hub, receiving instant payouts from NIL deals, fan boosting and marketplace sales without intermediaries or delay.
Contracts handle payments, royalty distribution and compliance enforcement behind the scenes, so distribution rules execute exactly as intended without manual intervention.
What the platform does day to day
Five blockchain-backed capabilities, each closing one of the gaps identified above.
| Capability | Runs | Refresh | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verifiable digital identity | On onboarding | On verification | Creates secure, verifiable identities for athletes, organizations and sponsors so participants can be trusted across the platform |
| NIL agreement tokenization | Per agreement | On execution | Converts NIL agreements, payments and compliance documents into tamper-proof digital tokens for secure, transparent transactions |
| Immutable audit trail | On-chain | Continuous | Permanently records approvals, signatures, payments and interactions as a transparent, reliable record of activity |
| Rewards & sponsorship tracking | Per activity | Real time | Tracks sponsorships, fan engagement and reward distribution through verifiable blockchain-backed data |
| Compliance & trust infrastructure | Per transaction | In-flow | Validates the who, what, when and where of each transaction to meet regulatory, compliance and trust requirements |
How the moving parts plug in
Payments, blockchain verification and engagement reach the platform through one API layer rather than sitting beside it as separate tools.

Core services
Because boosting, marketplace sales and fund distribution resolve against the same services, a fan supporting an athlete, an athlete receiving the payout and an institution evidencing it for audit are three views of one transaction rather than three systems to reconcile.
What protects funds, identity and compliance records
The platform moves regulated money between donors, institutions and athletes — so protection and provability were designed in, not bolted on.
Secure digital identity systems establish who each athlete, organization and sponsor is, so authenticity holds across users and transactions.
Blockchain records every approval, signature, payment and interaction immutably, giving institutions a reliable account of activity they cannot quietly alter.
NCAA, Title IX and other regulatory requirements are integrated into the architecture, so fund distribution, verification checks and payment tracking follow the rules automatically.
Real-time compliance tracking and automated reporting keep records organized, so organizations stay prepared for audits without extra manual work.
How we got there
Five stages, starting with the real needs of every participant in the sports ecosystem rather than a feature list.
Every workflow was mapped from the needs of athletes, universities, teams, sponsors, donors and fans, rather than building generic features and fitting people around them.
NCAA, Title IX and other regulatory requirements were integrated into the system architecture from day one, so fund distribution, audit reporting and verification checks automate rather than accumulate
NIL management, compliance workflows, blockchain verification, fan engagement and marketplace operations were brought onto one infrastructure so data flows across modules without friction.
Immutable transaction records, verified collectible ownership, automated royalty distribution and NIL payment tracking were implemented alongside digital identity verification.
Simplified digital wallets, QR-based activations, gamified player boosting and interactive marketplace experiences kept the product mobile-friendly and intuitive despite the technology under it.
What changed for the business
Beyond the headline numbers, three things institutions, athletes and fans noticed first.
Fragmented NIL management and fan engagement workflows became a single environment, simplifying NIL operations and fund distribution without adding administrative burden.
Real-time boosting, verified purchases and loyalty experiences gave fans meaningful ways to support athletes, and gave organizations engagement data they did not previously have.
Blockchain-backed verification reduced counterfeit risk in the memorabilia market, opening sustainable revenue for athletes, universities and other stakeholders including secondary sales.
What the engineering choices are worth in operating terms
Every headline number traces back to a specific decision, not a vague platform effect.
| Engineering decision | Operating outcome | Measured effect |
|---|---|---|
| Smart contract-driven NIL distribution | Donor-to-athlete payouts execute without manual handoffs or approval queues | 95% faster NIL workflow processing |
| Real-time boosting, QR activations & loyalty tiers | Fans support athletes in the moment instead of watching passively | 90% more fan participation |
| Compliance embedded in the architecture | Regulatory checks and audit reporting happen in the background | 85% less manual compliance effort |
| Blockchain records & tokenized collectibles | Every transaction and item traceable to a verifiable source | 99% transparency and authenticity |
